Prime Fishing Grounds

Trips often head toward the Picos Hermínios, an underwater seamount located about 45 nautical miles south of Albufeira. These nutrient-rich waters attract marlin, tuna, and dorado, making it one of the top big game fishing spots in the Algarve.

Flexible Duration

Trips generally last 7–9 hours, but may extend depending on conditions and activity — up to 12 hours in rare cases.

Most big game fish (especially marlin) are catch-and-release, in line with sustainable fishing practices.

This trip is best suited for anglers with some experience or those looking for a serious offshore adventure. Captain Spike is always happy to guide you, but it’s a hands-on, full-day experience.

What can we catch and when?

Tuna and dorado are typically targeted between July and September. October and November are the best months for marlin. Specific species depend on the season and sea conditions.

What is the boat's capacity?

The ideal group size is four guests, accompanied by two crew members. This keeps the boat comfortable and focused on the fishing experience.

How long is the trip?

Most trips last between seven and nine hours. On rare occasions, trips may extend up to twelve hours depending on the fishing action and conditions.

Is food or drink included?

This depends on the trip setup. We’ll let you know during the enquiry process. It’s always a good idea to bring snacks and drinks just in case.

Can we keep the fish?

Marlin are usually catch-and-release to support sustainable fishing. Tuna and dorado may be kept if regulations and size limits allow.

Where does the trip depart from?

Departures are typically from Albufeira or Vilamoura Marina. The final location will be confirmed when you book your trip.

What should we bring?

We recommend bringing sun protection, layered clothing, and motion sickness tablets if needed. The most important thing is a good attitude and a love of fishing.
